The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley (SWEK) is seeking two full-time Human Resources Business Partners, based in Kununurra, WA, each offering a unique opportunity to lead and make a meaningful impact.
Both are partnership roles, working with operational managers across the Shire, with one role having the portfolio of HR systems and continuous improvement, ideal for someone who thrives on structure and process optimisation. The other has a broader scope, focusing on employee relations, employee capability, policy and compliance, employee benefits and identified strategic initiatives. Both roles report to the Executive Manager of HR & Safety and contribute to SWEK’s HR delivery and people initiatives. Your key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Championing a positive workplace culture, employee engagement, and staff development
- Leading HR service delivery across either systems-focused or generalist portfolios
- Mentoring and supporting HR and safety team members
- Advising managers on people strategy, employee relations, and workplace matters
- Enhancing HR systems and improving internal processes and workflows
- Coordinating end-to-end recruitment, onboarding, and organisational change initiatives
- Contributing to policy development, workplace investigations, and compliance outcomes
- Providing corporate training and development, and improving employee capabilities across the Shire
- Partnering with industry bodies and stakeholders to support continuous improvement
- Supporting team development and contributing to future workforce planning

What You’ll Bring
To be considered in either role, you will need a university qualification in Human Resources or a related discipline, along with at least 1 year of experience in a similar HR capacity.
We're looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
- Strong generalist HR knowledge, with expertise in employee relations and/or systems
- Confidence in supporting remote or regional teams and understanding their unique needs
- Proven experience mentoring others or providing leadership within an HR team
While not mandatory, the following will be highly regarded:
- Experience working in local government or the public sector
- Familiarity with Western Australia's state-based industrial relations framework
- Certificate IV Training and Assessment

In return for your commitment and contribution, you’ll receive a total remuneration package of up to $157,000 (based on skills and experience), inclusive of Super, Allowances, and Leave Loading, along with a generous suite of additional benefits, including:
